Mommy’s Project 52 | #19 Folding

I had great plans for this post. I was going to make the cutest little trees out of folded book pages.

Then I realized we cleaned off our bookshelf  last week and already dropped the books off at our local Goodwill. I can’t find a single *garbage* book to re-purpose for the project.

I still wanted to do something, and in my sorrow, I browsed around until I discovered a magazine tree project. What is a magazine tree? It’s this:

Yup. I totally just made that. Here’s a video showing you how I folded the pages:

Well I didn’t say it was going to be a good video! ;)

I actually went through my tree and folded the bottom tab up in between the folds – it looks better now.

I used a paperclip on the back to hold it together (use glue if you want a more permanent solution). The back side looks a little sparse as is. I don’t mind since I’m never going to look at the back side. I think two magazines put together would make a nice full tree.

I was going to put some glue on the edges and drop some fake snow on…but I’ve run out of steam (it’s been one of those weeks!). You can be super creative with this project. Spray paint it, glitter it, add a star on top, glue a doily to the bottom, etc. This is a really easy project for the kids too! Give them a magazine, let them be creative – have some fun!

This is such an easy project, you really don’t have much of an excuse not to do it. :) Go ahead, what are you waiting for?

  1. I made a similar project in grade school with Reader’s Digests. They were angels and choir singers. We glued several mags together, folded the top 1/4 of each page and painted them. We used a doll rod and foam ball for a head, glued yarn on for hair, felt pieces for the face, and paper for arms holding a book. I still have it and put it out every Christmas!

    • Oh my goodness, that sounds awesome! Maybe I’ll have to make an angel! I’m finding that the old decorations I made as a kid are my favorite. Well, those and the angles that my grandma made…I love those (even though they are looking quite worn/faded these days).

  2. I love this!! I know the perfect place for some magazing trees:)
